Pandemic Flu Information and Planning

Steering Committee

Building on emergency preparedness work already done by the Department of Police and Public Safety, President Lou Anna K. Simon, together with Provost Kim Wilcox and Vice President Fred Poston, appointed a steering committee in August 2006 to oversee and direct planning for a potential pandemic influenza.

The committee includes key campus leaders, all with administrative oversight and responsibility. The following sectors of the university are represented:

  • Undergraduate programs.
  • Graduate programs.
  • Academic service.
  • Research.
  • Human resources, including benefits.
  • Communications/University Relations.
  • Operations and finance, including Physical Plant and Housing and Food Services.
  • Information technology/Libraries, Computing, and Technology.
  • General counsel.
  • Police and public safety.

The University Physician, who is charged with oversight for health and safety policy for the campus community, serves as chairperson. The steering committee has met regularly since its inception. Additionally, many other campus units have been involved in the planning and have reported on their efforts to the steering committee.
